A Simpler Way

If you aren’t going to need the above system for all your work, use this simple bill payment method instead. Select two bill payment days a month roughly fifteen days apart such as the 2nd and 15th. Label one manila folder for each of those dates. Once a week go through the bills you have received since the previous week. For each of your bills, subtract 7 days from its due date. Call this the pay date. Depending on that date, do one of three things:

1. If the pay date for a bill is after your second bill payment day of the month, put it in the folder for that day.

2. If the pay date is after your first bill payment day but on or before the second bill payment day of the month, put it in the folder for the first bill payment day.

3. If the pay date is on or before your next bill payment day, pay it right away. Review your bill folders every week. If you won’t be around, check the next bill payment day’s folder before leaving town.

Both of the above bill payment systems have one thing in common. While they’re very simple to use, once you’re on one of them you must follow it consistently. You’ll find consistency is a frequent theme behind lasting achievements. Using effective systems and methods regularly will lead to success as well as requiring less effort.
